St Cuthbert's Day Walk 23rd March 2019

Posted Date: Mar 25, 2019

Record numbers did the walk from Chester-le-Street to Durham Cathedral this year. With Durham Friends of the Camino and guests from Spain joining at Finchale Priory almost 200 walked together on the final leg from Finchale to Durham.

A wonderful day.

With an improvement in the weather compared to the challenging conditions last year a record number of participants joined the walk from Chester-le-Street to Durham Cathedral. Around 125 walkers set off from Chester-le-Street and the group was joined at Finchale Priory by the Friends of the Durham Camino and a number of guests from Spain. Almost 200 set off from Finchale on the final leg to Durham.

You can read up a third party article about the walk here and enjoy, as we did, a song written 900 years ago by St Godric

The following photographs were taken by John Attle, a good friend of ours, and show the procession of St Cuthbert's Banner from the Market Place, a warm welcome at the door to the Cathedral and walkers gathered around the Shrine of St Cuthbert. More of John's photographs from the day are available here.

It was a wonderful day.
